Her hand finds his gratefully, her fingers lacing through his for a moment as she fastens her belt and starts, a little unsteadily, back onto the street. It occurs to her that this is the first time she's ever done this, held hands with a man out on the street and not minded if people see, and the thought is like another little shock of joy, bubbling up inside her despite everything. He's not Roland, and she's not Susannah, but they can be something to each other, out in the open, and that means something.
She just hopes he doesn't let go of her hand once they're out in full view again. She wouldn't blame him if he did, but still... she hopes.
